What is a Holistic Nutritionist?

As a Holistic Nutritionist I use evidence and science-based tools and research to guide clients through their wellness concerns and goals. My recommendations include dietary, lifestyle and supplement suggestions. In my practice I asses the whole person as an individual including past health history, and emotional & physical well-being to be able to determine the root cause of a major concern. My suggestions are highly individual and each case will be designed a unique plan tailored to specific individual concerns. Some tools that I may use to understand your situation can include, hair analysis, micro-nutrient analysis, and allergy/sensitivity testing.

How can a Holistic Nutritionist help during preconception?

Diet and lifestyle are two of the most important aspects of an individuals life to take into consideration when trying to conceive. It is important to assess these factors in both the person trying to conceive and the partner. Optimizing nutrition for fertility and preconception can include the effects of food on reproductive function and health, dietary habits  and ovulation and fertility, and the importance of blood sugar control and weight management. As a nutritionist I will explore the ways in which prexisting conditions can be affecting your conception journey and how vitamin and mineral deficiencies play a role in your fertility.

How can a Holistic Nutritionist help during pregnancy?

Nutrient intake during pregnancy is crucial, you are not only eating for your own health but for the wellness of your developing fetus as well. A few things that I look at  include nutrient metabolism and requirements during pregnancy, food recommendations, optimizing gestational weight gain, and both maternal and fetal bone development. Common concerns that I can help you with through nutrition may be, morning sickness, Hyperemisis Gravadarium, constipation, headaches, anemia, bone health, varicose veins, mood, gestational diabetes, cravings, and food aversions.

How can a Holistic Nutritionist help during the postpartum period?

This period is what we refer to as the "fourth trimester", such an important and often overlooked time in your pregnancy journey. After giving birth the body undergoes so many changes, physically, hormonally and emotionally. One main concern that I see in my practice is the nutrient depletion that occurs after you give birth, especially if you are breastfeeding. Through nutrition I may help with postpartum concerns such as anemia, nutrient depletion, milk quality and supply, postpartum blues, and energy.

Are Holistic Nutritionists covered by insurance?

Holistic Nutrition services are covered under some healthcare benefits plans as “Nutritional Counselling”.  You will need to check your benefits/insurance plan to see if nutritional counselling is covered.
