Service Description

A Doula is a person professionally trained in the needs of the family during pregnancy and childbirth. As a Doula I will offer non-judgmental support, guidance, evidence-based education and practical hands-on support during childbirth. This program includes 2 prenatal sessions, I will coach you through as much of your labour and delivery day as possible and will also provide 1 post natal visit to ensure that you are doing well post birth. How I will help as a Doula: -Physical Support Position ideas, labor progression, and hands-on comfort techniques like comforting touch, counter pressure, & breathing. We can help guide your baby to find its way through the pelvis and into the world. -Emotional Support We will help you feel supported through the emotional experience of birth and also foster an environment where you feel most at peace. Whether your birth is completely unmedicated or medically very complex, there is much to gain through the emotional connection with a doula. -Partner Support Whether it is your partner, friend or another family member, your partners experience is very important to us. We will teach your partner exercises that you can do together to benefit your entire family unit through the journey of birth. -Evidence-Based Information and Advocacy We will help to connect you with evidence-based information and resources to be able to make informed decisions about your birth. We will help bridge the communication between you and your provider to assist in advocating for your best care. How it works: 1. I will meet with you (between 30-32 weeks). I will get to know you and discuss any concerns and wishes you have about the days leading closer to your due date. I will become familiar with your birth plan/preferences and answer any questions you may have about labour and delivery. 2. At 36 weeks we will have our second prenatal visit. After 36 weeks, I will be your point of reference and will be your emotional support in preparation for birth. 3. I will coach you through your delivery, whether that is at home, a birth centre or a hospital. I will be there to support you through your labour and delivery, for the duration of time that you require my support. 4. One week after the birth of your babe we will have our postpartum visit to check-in.
